Ajayi, who contested the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election but lost to incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked fresh speculation about a possible defection to the APC after recently withdrawing his Supreme Court case challenging Aiyedatiwa’s victory.

At the congress, Barrister Victor Modupe Aisida emerged as the new PDP State Chairman, succeeding Bakitta Bello, who had completed the tenure of the late Hon. Fatai Adams.

Other newly elected officials include Akin Oyewole (deputy chairman), Oluseye Olujimi (secretary), Jolade Aladetan (publicity secretary), and Woke Akindiose (legal adviser).

In his acceptance speech, Aisida pledged to restore unity, discipline, and strength to the party.

He emphasized the need for inclusiveness, intergenerational collaboration, and rebuilding internal trust.

“Our party has faced turbulence and tribulations, sometimes from enemies outside but mostly from cracks within. Yet, like the palm tree in the storm, we have bent but never broken. We will rise again, stronger, wiser, and more determined,” Aisida declared.

He assured members that the new leadership would work towards rebuilding the party’s strength through unity, discipline, and adherence to its constitution.

“We will rise again – stronger, wiser, and more determined. My team and I share a common vision: unity without exception and progress without exclusion. While we will remain persuasive with our doors wide open to all.

“We are determined to instil discipline to regain the glory of our party through a deliberate recourse to our party’s constitution and organs at all times,” Aisida said.

Aisida also promised a constructive opposition to the APC, advocating for engagement over hostility and adherence to the party’s constitution as the bedrock of his leadership.

He called on party faithful to set aside past grievances and unite to reposition the PDP as a credible alternative in Ondo state.
