The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of Pastor Yohanna Bitrus, 40, who was killed during an armed robbery attack late Friday night in Bassa Local Government Area. The tragic incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at approximately 11:20 p.m.
According to local sources, the victim was attacked by unidentified assailants who also made off with his motorcycle. A resident who witnessed the attack quickly reported the incident to the police.
Upon receiving the alert, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bassa led a team of officers to the scene, where they discovered Pastor Bitrus lying in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to his chest. Emergency responders rushed him to Bassa Cottage Hospital, but he was sadly confirmed dead by the attending physician.
In response to the attack, a joint security operation involving the military, police, and other law enforcement agencies has been launched. Teams are actively combing the surrounding forests in search of the assailants.
