The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man dressed in full masquerade regalia after he was reportedly sighted disrupting public peace in the state.
The arrest follows the recent directive issued by Governor Umo Eno ordering security agencies to clamp down on masquerades found parading the streets and causing disturbances across communities.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended while engaging in acts capable of breaching public order. He is expected to be charged to court accordingly.
The state government had earlier warned that any masquerade groups violating public safety regulations or obstructing free movement would face strict enforcement actions.
