The Nigeria Police Force has postponed the scheduled questioning of activist and former presidential candidate, Comrade Omoyele Sowore, over allegations of forgery and inciting public disturbance.

Sowore, who had earlier been summoned to appear before the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit on Monday, August 4, 2025, announced the postponement on Saturday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) page.

UPDATE: The @PoliceNG has postponed their Monday, August 4th invitation to me until further notice! #PoliceProtest,” Sowore posted.

The activist also shared a message he received from the Investigating Officer, SP Hafiz Garba, confirming the postponement due to scheduling conflicts involving the head of the IGP Monitoring Unit.

The message read:

GOOD EVENING, SIR. PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT YOUR MEETING WITH DCP AKIN FAKOREDE, HEAD OF IGP MONITORING UNIT, SLATED FOR MONDAY, 4TH AUGUST 2025, HAS BEEN POSTPONED. THIS IS DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE HEAD ON THAT DATE, AS HE WILL BE ATTENDING TO AN URGENT NATIONAL ASSIGNMENT IN THE NORTH EAST.”

“PLEASE A NEW DATE WILL BE FIXED FOR YOUR MEETING AND YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED ACCORDINGLY.”

“THANK YOU.

This development comes shortly after LeadNaija reported that Sowore had received an invitation letter from the police to appear over unspecified allegations of forgery and inciting disturbance—an invitation Sowore described as part of continued harassment by authorities.
