A violent riot broke out on Tuesday morning at Efab Bridge along the Kubwa-Gwarinpa Expressway, following the alleged killing of an individual by the FCT Task Force Enforcement Team.
The incident occurred around 10:20 AM, prompting officers from the Galadima Division to respond to a distress call regarding a violent disturbance in the area.
Upon arrival, police patrol teams found a chaotic scene with an enraged crowd protesting the alleged fatal shooting. Tensions escalated when a Civil Defence officer fired warning shots into the air, provoking the already agitated crowd. Protesters, including commercial motorcyclists, responded by throwing stones and other objects at the police.
During the altercation, Inspector Victor Gabriel sustained a severe head injury and was evacuated to Royal Care Hospital for treatment. Police authorities confirmed that two bodies, believed to be those of Okada riders, have been deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital, while one injured victim is receiving medical attention.
In response to the unrest, the Commissioner of Police met with relatives of the deceased and Okada leadership, assuring them that justice would be served.
