The South African Football Association (SAFA) has strongly criticised FIFA’s decision to deduct three points from its national team, describing the ruling as “unprecedented.”
In a statement released on Monday, SAFA said the verdict was handed down by a single-member FIFA disciplinary panel without providing reasons or allowing the association to present legal arguments.
“As SAFA, we are deeply disappointed with this unprecedented outcome, noting that it was delivered by a single-member panel without reasons, and without affording the Association an opportunity to present legal arguments,” the statement read.
SAFA said it is weighing its options and will pursue all available avenues to challenge what it considers an unfair and procedurally flawed decision.
