BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Presents N4.2tr ‘Budget of Shared Prosperity’ for 2026 to Lagos Assembly

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N4.2 trillion to the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing it as “The Budget of Shared Prosperity.”

The proposed spending plan—Lagos’ largest ever—focuses on strengthening human capital, expanding infrastructure, and deepening economic growth under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ policy framework.

Budget Breakdown

  • Total Budget: N4.2 trillion
  • Capital Expenditure: N2.2 trillion (52%)
  • Recurrent Expenditure: N2 trillion (48%)
  • Sectoral Allocations

Economic Affairs (Infrastructure, Agriculture, Transportation): N1.47 trillion

Education: N249 billion

Health: N338 billion

Environment: N235 billion

Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the 2025 Budget recorded 81% performance as of September 30, 2025, a figure he said reflects improved efficiency in project delivery, spending discipline, and revenue mobilisation.

Strategic Pillars of the 2026 Budget

The “Budget of Shared Prosperity” is anchored on four major pillars:

1. Human-Centric City – strengthening education, healthcare, and social welfare

2. Modern Infrastructure – accelerated development of roads, housing, power, water, and transport systems

3. Thriving Economy – boosting job creation, SME growth, and macroeconomic stability

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the 2026 budget aligns with the refined T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and the state’s Parastatal Monitoring Framework, which ensures tighter oversight of MDAs to drive measurable outcomes.

The appropriation bill now awaits consideration and approval by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
