The Senate will on Thursday, October 16, 2025, screen Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A statement issued by the Director of Information, National Assembly, Mr. Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, disclosed that the screening exercise will take place at the Senate Chamber, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
President Tinubu had last month transmitted the name of Prof. Amupitan to the Senate for confirmation following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Prof. Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jos, is widely regarded for his expertise in constitutional law and governance. Lawmakers are expected to question him on his plans for deepening electoral transparency and strengthening the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
