The Senate will on Wednesday screen and confirm the newly appointed Service Chiefs, following a formal request from President Bola Tinubu seeking legislative approval for their appointments.
The request was contained in a letter transmitted to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during Tuesday’s plenary session.
President Tinubu had last week announced a major shake-up in the Armed Forces, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The President also retained Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye as the Chief of Defence Intelligence, while expressing appreciation to the outgoing military chiefs for their service to the nation.
