Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 10th National Assembly, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her defection makes her the first incumbent senator to align with the ADC, marking a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kingibe’s decision was formally communicated to the Senate through a letter addressed to the Senate President and read during plenary on Thursday.
Although the details behind her defection remain unclear, political observers believe it may be linked to internal party disagreements within the Labour Party and her interest in strengthening her political base ahead of future elections.+See more details
Her move is expected to further shape the political dynamics within the Federal Capital Territory and the National Assembly.
