Several people have been killed while others sustained injuries after a fire broke out during a New Year’s party at an Alpine ski resort in southern Switzerland.
According to CNN, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Crans-Montana, a popular high-end holiday destination in the canton of Valais.+See more details
Confirming the development, Valais police spokesperson, Gaetan Lathion, said the fire erupted at about 1:30 a.m. at the Le Constellation lounge bar.
“This morning, January 1, 2026, a fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at Le Constellation lounge bar in Crans-Montana in the canton of Valais,” Lathion said.
“There are several injuries and several fatalities.”
He, however, declined to disclose the exact number of those killed or injured, adding that investigations were still ongoing.
The cause of the fire was also not immediately known, as emergency services continued their response at the scene.
Lathion disclosed that further details would be provided later in the day, noting that a joint press conference involving the police and the canton’s public prosecutor was scheduled for around 10 a.m. local time.+See more details
Crans-Montana is widely known for its luxury ski resorts and attracts thousands of visitors annually, especially during the festive season.
