A wave of outrage has trailed the brutal killing of Mr. Adegoke Fatai, a teacher in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, who was allegedly attacked by his students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours, LeadNaija Report.
The incident, described by many as “tragic and avoidable,” has sparked condemnation from teachers and education advocates across the country.
According to reports, Mr. Fatai, known for his discipline and dedication to duty, was beaten severely by a group of students who resisted his attempt to curb gambling on the school premises. He later died from his injuries, leaving behind a grieving family and devastated colleagues.

LeadNaija learnt in a strongly worded statement, an education advocate lamented the killing, describing it as “an assault on the entire teaching profession.”
“A teacher who stood for discipline and integrity was beaten, had his limbs broken, and eventually died from his injuries. What a painful reflection of moral decay and loss of values in our schools and homes!” the statement read.
The speaker called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), TESCOM, and law enforcement authorities to take swift action, insisting that the perpetrators and their parents must be held accountable.

“Those students must be arrested, prosecuted, and made to face the full weight of the law. Their parents, too, must not escape responsibility. Silence at this moment is complicity.”
The statement concluded with a passionate call for justice:
“Teachers are not slaves. We are nation builders — deserving of protection, respect, and dignity in the line of duty. Let this be the last time any teacher’s blood is shed in vain.
Justice for Mr. Adegoke Fatai! Justice for the teaching profession!
