BREAKING: Tinubu Order Senate To Confirm New 7 Members Of Rivers Electoral Commission, Civil Service, Others

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of the appointments of chairmen and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board, Rivers State Civil Service Commission, and Rivers State Local Government Civil Service Commission.

The letters, signed by the president, was read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

While debate was not entertained on President Tinubu’s request, the letter was however, referred to the Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Emergency Rule Oversight for deliberation.

In April, the sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has approved the appointment of a new chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

According to the statement, the new RSIEC Chairman, Dr Micheal Ekpai Odey, will work with six members.

The appointment was announced in a Government Special Announcement issued by Prof. Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government.

It reads, “The Following have also been appointed as Chairman and members of the Rivers State Electoral Commission:

  1. “Dr Micheal Ekpai Odey— Chairman
  2. Mr Lezaasi Lenee Torbira— member
  3. Prof Author Nwafor— member
  4. Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha— member
  5. Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor— member
  6. Dr (Mrs) Olive A. Bruce— member
  7. Professor Chidi Halliday— member.

“All appointments take effect from Monday, the 7th of April 2025”.
