A United States lawmaker, Senator Ted Cruz, has called on former President Donald Trump to take stronger action against Nigerian officials allegedly linked to the killing of Christians.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Cruz said that after Nigeria was designated as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), the next step should be to hold those responsible accountable.

“Thank you to President Trump for his leadership in imposing the designation, and more broadly, for fighting to stop the murder of Christians in Nigeria.

“Now we should take the next step and hold Nigerian officials accountable. I intend to be very explicit about who they are in the coming days and weeks.”

Meanwhile, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against pleading with Donald Trump following the ex-president’s threats against Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric urged Tinubu not to put himself at the mercy of the US leader but to urgently tackle insecurity at home.

According to him, failure to address insecurity could negatively affect Tinubu’s government and his 2027 ambitions.

“Don’t travel to go and beg Trump, he wants to make money,” Ayodele warned. “Tinubu shouldn’t be at his mercy; rather, he should go to God and work well on insecurity.”

Ayodele further claimed that Trump’s concern over killings in Nigeria was not genuine but a strategy to gain economic advantage.

“The matter of Nigeria is beyond genocide. Tinubu isn’t Trump’s friend, and what the US wants to do is negotiate for Nigeria’s resources,” he added.

He urged Tinubu to be patient and careful with the options presented by Washington, stressing that only Nigeria could solve its problems.

“Trump isn’t God; he just wants to make money. If the US truly means well, they should work with Nigeria rather than threaten it,” he stated.
