A woman was arrested on Saturday after police discovered explosives hidden in her luggage during a vehicle search on the R511 towards Hartbeespoortdam.
The seizure occurred around 09h00 on November 29, 2025, when SAPS Atteridgeville officers on a routine patrol stopped a suspicious Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. A subsequent search of the passengers’ bags led to the discovery of the explosives.

According to police, the suspect was unable to provide a lawful explanation for possessing the items. The Bomb Disposal Unit secured the explosives for safe removal.
Major-General Samuel Thine praised the officers’ vigilance, stating their actions were instrumental in protecting public safety. The suspect faces a charge of illegal possession of explosives, and an investigation into the origin and intended destination of the materials is ongoing.
