The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has withdrawn the services of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) from the ongoing second carriageway of the Abuja–Mararaba–Keffi road project.
According to the Minister, the decision follows the company’s failure to comply with approved contract designs and directives issued by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Umahi announced that the project’s inner and outer shoulders will now be handled by local contractors, who are to adopt durable concrete pavement technology in line with the ministry’s new standards for sustainable road construction.
The Minister emphasized that the move aligns with the federal government’s commitment to ensuring quality, accountability, and efficiency in national infrastructure projects, adding that local participation will boost job creation and technical capacity within Nigeria’s construction industry.
