Trump made the announcement hours after a dramatic military operation removed Maduro from power and took him out of the country.
He said Washington would temporarily oversee Venezuela’s affairs as part of efforts to stabilise the nation and dismantle criminal networks.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were reportedly seized during a late-night operation in Caracas and transported aboard a U.S.
military vessel before arriving in New York. They are expected to face charges linked to alleged narco-terrorism and drug trafficking conspiracies.
The operation represents the most aggressive U.S. push for regime change in decades and has sparked renewed debate among legal experts over its legitimacy under international law.
