China Demands U.S. Release Nicolás Maduro, Accuses Washington Of Violating Sovereignty

China’s Foreign Ministry has called on the United States to immediately release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, condemning the U.S. military action in Venezuela as a “blatant violation of international law” and a breach of state sovereignty.

In an unusually strong diplomatic rebuke, Beijing accused Washington of undermining the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and warned that U.S. strikes and the seizure of Maduro threaten peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean.+See more details

The Chinese statement urged the United States to cease what it described as “hegemonic acts” and to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation, rather than force.

South Africa’s government has also strongly condemned the U.S. military strikes and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, describing the operation as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
