The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly opposed plans by the Niger State Government to introduce Hisbah, a religious police force responsible for enforcing Islamic law.
CAN argues that establishing such a force in a constitutionally secular state would be discriminatory, threaten religious freedom, and heighten tensions between communities.
This development raises significant concerns about the potential marginalization of non-Muslims and the imposition of one faith’s laws on a religiously diverse population.
