The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 19 suspected vandals across the state within three days.
State NSCDC Commandant Bala Bodinga disclosed this during a briefing at the state headquarters on Wednesday, explaining that the arrests followed intensified intelligence-led patrols and surveillance.
The suspects were apprehended at various locations, including Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso Local Government Areas. They were allegedly involved in tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, illegal substances, and other public utilities.
Recovered exhibits included rolls of aluminium cables, 6.1kg of armoured transformer cables, suck and die rolls (sukudai), a short spear (Dan bida), a motorcycle, a broken soldering iron, shovels, diggers, and rubber solution (sholusho).
Bodinga said the suspects had been profiled, investigated, and would face prosecution in accordance with the law. He added that NSCDC would continue strengthening intelligence gathering, intensifying patrols, and collaborating with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to curb vandalism. The public was urged to provide timely and useful information to protect collective assets.
