The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged the Nigerian Army troops to uphold patriotism and the fighting spirit in the discharge of their duties.
General Oluyede made this known during his Christmas Luncheon with troops at headquarters 9 Brigade Nigeria Army, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The COAS who was represented by the Commander Corps of Engineer, Major General Philip Eromosele, commended the soldiers for their sacrifices and untiring commitment in tackling the numerous security challenges facing the country.
He also encouraged troops deployed in the various theaters and peacekeeping operations that would not be with their loved ones during the festive periods due to the exigency of duty.
The COAS noted that the collective efforts of the troops towards security lives and properties are appreciated by Nigerians.
He charged his officers and soldiers to be focused, disciplined and loyal to the constituted authority while ensuring that they are fully committed to achieving constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.
In his address, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Major General Faruk Mijinyawa, said that the luncheon was organised to appreciate the troops’ relentless efforts, sacrifices, and dedication throughout the year.

He also extended prayers to the departed colleagues who passed on during the year.
Earlier in celebration of the festive season, the Headquarters 9 Brigade held an end-of-year party for the children residing in the cantonment.
The party, themed “Ikeja Cantonment End of Year Funfair,” was aimed at commemorating the holiday spirit with the children and families of all personnel residing in the Cantonment.
During his address to the children, the Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Olawale Matthew Oyekola, emphasised the need for safety and security during the funfair to achieve the joyful effects of the yuletide season.
