COAS Moves to Maiduguri Amid Rising Insecurity in Northeast

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has relocated to Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State.

COAS relocated to the Northeast State with a view to re-jig the counter-terrorism structure in the area and further equip troops with the resources needed in the fight against insurgents.

In a post made by a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, the Army chief is currently in Maiduguri alongside his key commanders.

Makama said the COAS has already spent a total of three days on the frontline and is currently leading a high-powered team of senior officers to conduct an on-site assessment and tactical reviews of activities of the Operation Hadin Kai.

According to him, a military source hinted that the COAS is also interacting with troops and commanders on the frontline.

β€œThe COAS is fully on the ground. His presence in the theatre is to drive home the urgency of operational recalibration and to ensure our troops are adequately supported in all aspects,” Makama quoted a source as saying.

The COAS is also expected to, through his visit to Maiduguri, boost the morale of troops on the frontline.
