Two brothers, Ahmadu Idi and Sale Idi, have been arrested for allegedly killing their half-brother and inflicting injuries on their father in Kiyawa local government, Jigawa State.
Eyewitnesses say the siblings accused their deceased brother of witchcraft, and consequently beat him brutally with sticks, in the process they also injured their father when he attempted to rescue him.
Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the two suspects were arrested and taken into custody for a discreet investigation.
He further said preliminary investigation indicated that Ahmadu, 45, and Sale, 25, both of Garkon Alli village, conspired and beat their brother, accusing him of witchcraft.
According to Adam: βOn July 25, 2024, at about 12:30 pm, intelligence available to our command disclosed that two individuals, Haruna Idi from Garkon Alli village in Kiyawa LGA and his 80-year-old father, Idi Hassan, from the same address, had been severely beaten with sticks. Consequently, the victim suffered a serious injury.
βOn receipt of the report, detectives from Kiyawa Division raced to the scene of the crime and conveyed the victims to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse for medical attention.
βOne of the victims, Haruna Idi, died and the father, who had a fractured hand and leg, was admitted and is at the hospital receiving treatment.β
The police spokesperson added that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse.
