A court in Santa Monica has ordered Bill Cosby, a former U.S. comedian and TV star, to pay $19 million in a civil case after a jury found him liable for a 1972 incident involving former waitress Donna Motsinger, now 84.

Motsinger told the court that Cosby picked her up in a limousine, gave her wine and a pill she believed was aspirin, and later took her to one of his shows.

According to filings, the substance left her incapacitated. “Next thing she knew, she was going in and out of consciousness… the last thing Ms Motsinger recalls were flashes of light,” the lawsuit stated. She said she later woke up at home partially undressed and believed she had been drugged and raped.

Cosby, 88, has denied the allegation and similar claims made by dozens of women over the years. His legal team argued that Motsinger “freely admits that she has no idea what happened.” His lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, said the comedian would appeal the verdict.

Motsinger, who previously worked at the Trident restaurant in Sausalito, said she first met Cosby there. The comedian has faced accusations from over 60 women, many alleging he used sedative and alcohol to a§§ault them over several decades.
