A Rigasa Magistrate Court in Kaduna on Monday ordered the remand of a social media influencer, Abubakar Muhammad, popularly known as Sarki Sultan, at the Kaduna Correctional Centre over alleged cyber offences.

Zagazola reports that Muhammad was paraded before the court by the Department of State Services (DSS).

He was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on extortion and criminal intimidation, contrary to sections of the Penal Code.

The prosecution told the court that the accused allegedly created multiple fake social media accounts which he used to threaten and extort a complainant.

According to the charges, Muhammad demanded payments through cryptocurrency and Point of Sales (POS) channels, and also attempted to lure the complainant to a location under suspicious circumstances.

The DSS prosecutor said that digital evidence, including recovered accounts, payment trails and conversations linking him to the alleged offences, would be presented during trial. Recall that Muhammad had already confessed to the cybercrime in a viral video after his arrest.

The Magistrate ordered that Muhammad be remanded in custody pending further hearing of the case.

The matter was adjourned to a later date for continuation.
