Two young men sustained injuries after a serious lone accident allegedly involving suspected operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) along the Abakpa/Igoli Road in Ogoja, Cross River State.
Police sources told LeadNaija that the incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Friday and involved a BMW car driven by 27-year-old Bassey Precious, with 24-year-old Caleb Fidelis Okem as a passenger.
According to the sources, the BMW was intercepted by a white Toyota Hiace bus occupied by armed men suspected to be EFCC operatives, who were seen carrying AK-47 rifles. In an attempt to force the BMW to a halt, one of the operatives allegedly entered the vehicle and a struggle ensued with the driver.
The confrontation reportedly caused the BMW to lose control, somersault, and crash. The EFCC operatives allegedly fled the scene immediately, leaving the injured victims behind.
The victims were quickly taken to the General Hospital in Ogoja, where they are currently receiving treatment and are said to be responding well.
Police authorities in Cross River confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to identify the operatives involved for possible disciplinary action.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not yet issued an official statement.
