President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has alleged widespread sabotage within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, revealing that his refinery has suffered losses estimated at $82 million due to stolen items.
Dangote made the disclosure while speaking on the challenges confronting operations in the oil industry, insisting that corruption in the sector is more entrenched than in illegal drug networks.
According to him, “Drug mafias are actually smaller than those in the oil and gas industry because, in drugs, you know yourself, but in the oil sector, there are many corrupt individuals.”
He added that the losses recorded at the Dangote Refinery were not accidental but the result of deliberate acts.
“In this refinery, we have lost $82 million due to stolen items. Yes, there is sabotage,” Dangote stated.
The billionaire industrialist’s comments come amid ongoing debates over oil theft, vandalism and systemic corruption that continue to undermine Nigeria’s petroleum sector and government revenue. +See more details
