Africa’s largest refinery, the Dangote Refinery, has ramped up exports of petrol and urea fertiliser to help African countries facing severe fuel shortages caused by the ongoing Iran war and disruptions in global oil supply.
Owner Aliko Dangote confirmed yesterday that the refinery is running at full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. He assured that it can reliably supply Nigeria, West Africa, Central Africa, and East Africa during the crisis.
“We have shipped some 17 cargoes of petrol to other African nations,” Dangote said during a tour of the facility on the outskirts of Lagos. He added that urea fertiliser exports to African buyers have also increased sharply in recent days as countries search for alternative sources.
The Strait of Hormuz through which about one-fifth of global oil flows remains largely closed, triggering a scramble for alternative crude supplies worldwide.
