The Defence Headquarters on Monday, October 21, denied claims that an acting Chief of Army Staff has been appointed to lead the Army.

The DHQ in a statement issued in Abuja by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, said no such appointment exists.

However, Gusau said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa spoke to the COAS some minutes ago.

Musa noted that the COAS is on a well deserved test which is part of his annual leave for 2024.

He also noted that all the service chief are carrying out their responsibilities in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

He also noted that Stigar the chief of policy and plans, Major General Abdulsalam Ibrahim is providing routine brief to the Army Chief in line with standard military procedures.

The statement said, β€œThe DHQ urges individuals spreading unfounded rumours to desist from doing so immediately. The COAS is hale and hearty and will soon resume normal duties at the end of his leave.

β€œMedia organisations are advised to verify information with the appropriate authorities before releasing fake news to the public,” it added.
