A high court in Oyo State has directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to go ahead with the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, the state capital.

The order was issued on Monday by A.L. Akintola, the presiding judge, following an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

The suit, filed on Monday, listed the PDP, Damagum, Umar Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

Adelabi had requested an interim injunction to prevent the defendants from “truncating, frustrating, the Guidelines, Timetable and Schedule of Activity and/or disrupting, preventing and/or stopping the conduct of the Scheduled National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fixed for the 15th and 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan to elect officers of the party at national level, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The applicant also sought a court order directing the PDP, Damagum, and Fintiri to “adhere to and honour the provisions of the aforesaid Guidelines, Timetable, and Schedule of Activities for the conduct of the National Convention pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja stopped the Peoples Democratic Party from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan.

Justice Omotosho directed the PDP “to go back and put its house in order, and to give the statutory 21-day notice to INEC before it can proceed with the proposed convention.”

The judge also restrained INEC from accepting or recognising the outcome of any PDP national convention that is not conducted in accordance with due process, the law, and INEC’s own regulations.
