Popular Nollywood actor, Rotimi Salami, has said he would continue to accept and raise a child he has cared for from infancy even if a DNA test later proves the child is not biologically his.
The actor made this known while reacting to ongoing public discussions about paternity tests and family responsibility.
According to Salami, fatherhood goes beyond biological ties, stressing that the emotional bond built over years of care and upbringing is far more important.
“If DNA says my child isn’t biologically mine, but I have cared for the child since infancy, and the child knows me as his father, I will wholeheartedly accept the child as mine,” he said.
The Nollywood star added that the child would continue to bear his name and regard him as a father because the child is not responsible for the circumstances surrounding his or her birth.
“The child will carry my name forever and see me as his father, because it wasn’t the child who created himself or herself,” Salami added.
His comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians sharing varying opinions about fatherhood, responsibility and the growing calls for DNA testing in relationships.
