A Nigerian Muslim woman has sparked reactions online after sharing how she felt sidelined by her Imam despite years of dedication and service at the mosque.
On the Reports gathered by Leadnaija News, the woman shared her ordeal how she was sideline despite years of dedication and service.
“The mosque I usually worship, am the one who always washes the toilets, mops, and cleans the whole environment. I truly believed I was doing the work of Allah.
For you to know how stressful it can be, I fall sick sometimes. To the extent that I will come across strong p££ while cleaning, but I said to myself I was doing Allah’s work.
One day, they called us for a meeting and said they wanted to select an Iya Adini (mosque leader). I felt relaxed because I believed I truly deserve it, considering my commitment and how I clean the mosque.
I even thought to myself that I have a sister in Saudi who could send me an abaya to wear on the ceremony day.
Then the Alfa and Imam mentioned names of those who befit the Iya Adini (mosque leader) position, to my surprise my name wasn’t there.
They said it will be rewarded to the Alhajas who sell clothes in Lagos Island markets. Meanwhile, these people they are talking about don’t even come to mosque regularly. If you ask them to recite the Qur’an, they won’t get it right. They hardly know anything.
I then asked the Imam, please, me that has been showing commitment and dedication, what position am I entitled to since you said Iya Adini doesn’t suit me? They said they have a position reserved for me, that I will be the one carrying offering box to collect money in the mosque.
Please, is that what we poor followers of Allah deserve? Those of us who wash and clean the mosque, don’t we deserve to be placed in a good position rather than carrying offering? Is it supposed to be like this? Let us all have the fear of God…”
