The first half saw both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances, with the defences largely neutralizing attacking threats.
Bruno Fernandes’ speculative long-range effort was the highlight for United, but they failed to capitalize on possession. Viktoria Plzen, on the other hand, looked organized and waited for their opportunity.
Plzen broke the deadlock early in the second half after a mistake from AndrĂ© Onana. The goalkeeper’s misplaced pass was intercepted by Sulc, who set up Matej Vydra to tap in from close range.
United responded strongly, with Amad Diallo’s creativity leading to the equalizer.
Diallo nutmegged Markovic before his rebounded shot fell kindly for Rasmus Højlund to score.
Højlund struck again in the 88th minute to seal the win. Fernandes delivered a precise free-kick into the box, and the Danish striker controlled it expertly before firing past the goalkeeper.
The result sees United close the gap to the top of the table, with Athletic Club maintaining their lead on 16 points
