The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry in Kaduna State has distributed food items to Muslims, Tsangaya (Islamic) schools, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) ahead of the Ramadan fast.
The church’s General Overseer, Yohanna Buru, who led the exercise at the Kano Road Central Mosque, stated the initiative aims to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen interfaith harmony.
For about 20 years, the church has supported underprivileged Muslims and Tsangaya schools across five northern states with items like bags of rice, maize, prayer mats, and plastic kettles to ease the burden of the 30-day fast.
Mr. Buru also noted the church facilitates the release of some Muslim inmates annually to observe Ramadan with their families, and mentioned the support of a Muslim philanthropist, Ramatu Tijjani, who donates to widows and orphans during Christmas.
Beneficiaries, including leaders of persons with disabilities and the visually impaired, commended the church’s long-standing support, urging others to emulate the gesture. Imam Ilyasu of Jama’atu Nasril Islam also praised the initiative as commendable.
