It has been a difficult few months for Inter Milan.
At the end of May, they were thrashed 5-0 in the Champions League final.
Days later, Simone Inzaghi left the club to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
He was replaced by club legend – but incredibly inexperienced – Cristian Chivu.
Then, at the Club World Cup, they were knocked out by Brazilian side Fluminense in the round of 16.
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse – it could.
This summer, Inter’s first choice target has been Ademola Lookman of Atalanta.
However, things have been ground to a halt.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter are set to tell the player’s agent that any deal is now off.
He states that negotiations have now been frozen for two weeks.
The deal that saw Nicola Zalewski move from Inter to Atalanta is not related to any deal here.
No doubt about it, this is hugely disappointing for Chivu’s side.
As for Atalanta, hugely encouraging news to be, at least for now, keeping hold of their best player.
Sure, he could join another club, but there have been very few reports linking him to any other club.
So until then, we probably have to assume that he will be an Atalanta player, at least until January.
