Rivers United have been ranked 24th in Africa with 14 points in the latest Confederation of African Football (CAF) clubs’ rankings, making them Nigeria’s highest-placed team.

The Port Harcourt-based club has been the country’s most consistent representative in CAF competitions in recent seasons, even though they have yet to reach a continental final.

Note that the latest CAF club rankings come ahead of the 2025/26 Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary round draws, scheduled for today, August 9, in Tanzania.

Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful club on the continent, are ranked 35th with seven points. The two-time CAF Champions League winners have struggled to make significant progress in recent years, with their last notable appearance being the 2024/25 Confederation Cup group stage. Early eliminations and inconsistent results have affected their standing.

CAF clubs’ rankings are based on performances over the last five seasons, with recent results carrying greater weight. Rivers United’s higher placement reflects stronger and more consistent performances than those of other Nigerian clubs.

Al Ahly of Egypt lead the continental rankings with 78 points, followed by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns with 62 points and Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis with 57 points.
