EXCLUSIVE: Taraba Chief Judge Tasks New Notaries Public On Impartiality, Legal Discipline

The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, on Monday charged newly appointed notaries public to uphold honesty, impartiality and strict fidelity to the law as they assume their duties within the state and beyond.

Justice Agya delivered the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of six new notaries public held in Jalingo.

While administering the Oath of Office, he described the position as one built on trust, integrity and global significance.

He urged the appointees to play active roles in strengthening legal transactions, supporting commercial activities, protecting vulnerable individuals, and ensuring that all documentation originating from Taraba meets the highest standards of authenticity.

“Your selection by the Honourable Chief Judge of Nigeria is an affirmation of your competence and standing at the Bar.

“It is also a reminder that the public, institutions, and the international community will now rely on your diligence and professional honour.

“You must therefore conduct your duties with fairness, accuracy, confidentiality, and strict compliance with the Notaries Public Act 2023 and all relevant regulations,” Agya said.

In his remarks, Mr. Martin Milkman, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Taraba branch, expressed appreciation to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for deeming six members of the branch worthy of appointment.

He encouraged other members of the Bar in the state to apply for the office, noting that the appointment of six Notaries Public at once is unprecedented in Taraba State.
