Security agencies investigating the alleged conspiracy to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government have identified two principal financiers who allegedly funneled N835 million through two private companies to bankroll the plot.

The Alleged Financiers and Their Roles:

Timipre Sylva (Former Bayelsa Governor): Accused of being the principal financier, allegedly contributing the largest share of N785 million. Investigators claim the funds were transferred through Purple Waves Limited, an Abuja-based construction company. The firm’s secretary, John Ebokpo, has been arrested and detained. Mr. Sylva, who remains at large, has denied any involvement. His office at the company has reportedly been shut down for months.
· Moses Zakwa: Alleged to have contributed N50 million through Clay Ring Services Limited, a Lagos-based company where he is listed as a director. Little is known about Mr. Zakwa, though security agencies are holding him in custody.

The alleged plot, initially planned for President Tinubu’s inauguration in May 2023, was postponed due to lack of funds. It was reportedly reactivated in 2025 after the alleged funds were wired. The failed plot was allegedly masterminded by Colonel Alhassan Maaji. A total of 40 suspects, including senior military officers, a police officer, and civilians, are detained. Recovered items include sophisticated weapons, vehicles, and funds, now held by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
