The FBI said at an afternoon press conference on Wednesday that investigators believe the suspect in Wednesday’s terror attack in New Orleans was not acting alone and that he was in possession of multiple improvised explosive devices when he rammed a truck into a crowd.
The bureau also asked for the public’s assistance in finding out more about Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas man identified as the suspect.
Police say Jabbar rammed a truck into a crowd, killing 10 people and injuring dozens of others before he opened fire on New Orleans police officers. Officers shot and killed the man, who was in possession of explosives devices. Two officers were wounded and hospitalized.
Jabbar reportedly rammed the crowd while dressed in military gear and was in possession of an ISIS flag. Little was known about him as of a 2 p.m. ET media update, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Althea Duncan said.
Duncan confirmed the above reporting about Jabbar and added:
IEDs were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. As of now, two IEDs have been found and rendered safe. The FBI special agent bomb technicians, as well as our local law enforcement partners, have been working to determine if any of these devices are viable and they will work to render those devices safe. The FBI, we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.
