The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a woman, Vera Onyebigwa, over a suspected case of child trafficking after she allegedly purchased a 6-year-old girl for ₦500,000.

Police sources confirmed to LeadNaija that on April 25, 2025, around 2:00 p.m., a distress call was received at the Gwagwalada Division concerning a suspected child trafficking incident near the Timber Shed area.

Responding swiftly, police operatives deployed to the scene apprehended Onyebigwa, a resident of No. 38 Murtala Mohammed Way, Benin City, Edo State, who was found with the young girl, whose identity has not yet been established.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Onyebigwa claimed to have purchased the child from her biological father and intended to transport her to Benin City.

The child’s cries reportedly caught the attention of a Good Samaritan, who immediately alerted the police, leading to her rescue.

Authorities have placed the child in protective custody, while investigations into the case are ongoing to uncover the full details of the alleged transaction and any possible wider trafficking network.
