The police in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday said it arrested a former immigration officer who specializes in selling arms to bandits operating along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
The police said the former immigration officer who was dismissed from the Nigerian Immigration Service was arrested following an intelligence operation by operatives of the police.
Mustapha Mohammed, the officer in charge of police anti-kidnapping unit said the force successfully prevented the arms from getting to the criminals.
Mohammed said, “Acting on intelligence, the command intercepted these guns from a dismissed immigration officer attempting to sell them to bandits terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna forest.
“The intelligence was received in time, and the arms were intercepted while he was trying to make the delivery,” he added.
According to Mohammed, some of the weapons recovered from the former immigration staff include a Scorpion CZ EVO3, an advanced, fully automatic firearm with an inbuilt silencer.
He also confirmed that the weapon was the latest model of the Scorpion series – the 2022 model – and its magazine can hold up to 30 rounds depending on its configuration.
Other items recovered include 52 rounds of ammunition among others.
