Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana (SAN), has described the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as “purely political.”
Falana, in a statement while addressing the news men, said there is no legal or moral justification for keeping Kanu in custody indefinitely, especially when the Federal Government continues to negotiate with “bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements who have caused untold harm to this nation.”
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case is purely political. There is no legal or moral basis for keeping him detained indefinitely, especially when the Federal Government freely negotiates with bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements who have caused untold harm to this nation,” Falana stated.
The senior lawyer urged the government to uphold the rule of law and release Kanu, emphasizing that selective justice undermines national unity and trust in democratic governance.
