The Federal Government has approved the dualisation of the 420-kilometre Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe highway, a major transport corridor linking parts of the North-Central and North-East regions.
The approval covers the stretch from Akwanga in Nasarawa State through Jos in Plateau State to Bauchi and Gombe States, and is aimed at improving road safety, boosting economic activities, and enhancing regional connectivity.
According to government officials, the dualised highway will be equipped with modern infrastructure, including street lighting, solar-powered lighting systems, irrigation dams, and renewable energy components.
The project is also designed to support agricultural development and position Nigeria to earn future carbon credits through climate-friendly infrastructure.
The announcement was made during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 35.4-kilometre Bauchi–Gombe section of the road, which has been awarded
