The Federal Government has successfully mediated an end to the industrial dispute between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), following two days of negotiations.
A statement released on Wednesday by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, confirmed that both parties reached a resolution after extensive discussions facilitated by government officials.
According to the Minister, the meeting reaffirmed that unionisation is a legal right of workers in Nigeria and must be respected.
The communique outlined the following agreements:
- The Dangote Group will immediately begin the redeployment of disengaged refinery workers to other subsidiaries within the conglomerate, with no loss of pay.
- No employee will face victimisation for their role in the impasse.

Government officials present at the negotiations included National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
Dr. Dingyadi noted that the resolution was reached in good faith and expressed confidence that the agreement would restore industrial harmony in the oil and gas sector.
