The Federal Government has disbursed unconditional grants of ₦250,000 each to outstanding small business owners in Ondo State, as part of its ongoing nationwide support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the launch of the 7th edition of the Expanded National MSMEs Clinics, held on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital.
A Gift, Not a Loan — Shettima Assures Beneficiaries
Vice President Shettima emphasized that the disbursement is not a loan, but a direct grant to recognize and empower grassroots entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence.
“In line with President Tinubu’s unwavering support for grassroots enterprises, every outstanding exhibiting MSME identified during this clinic will receive an unconditional grant of ₦250,000,” he said.
“This is not a loan. It is a gift from the Nigerian people to the champions of local industry. It is our way of saying: we see you, we value you, and we believe in your journey.”
MSMEs: The Pulse of Every Community
Shettima described MSMEs as the “silent architects of survival” and critical drivers of Nigeria’s economic stability and household resilience.
“The silent architects of survival, the lifelines of households, and the pulse of every community,” he stated. “Nigeria’s national prosperity is entwined with the success of its MSMEs.”
He reiterated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration prioritizes the creation of an enabling environment for small businesses, reflecting the government’s commitment beyond mere policy rhetoric.
“This is not just rhetoric. It is a covenant with the builders of our future,” he added.
MSMEs Clinics: Taking Support to the Grassroots
The Expanded National MSMEs Clinics, spearheaded by the Vice President’s office, is a federal initiative that brings relevant regulatory and financing agencies closer to entrepreneurs at the grassroots level.
The Akure edition marks the 7th in the series of outreach events aimed at strengthening the MSME ecosystem across Nigeria.
