The Federal Ministry of Finance has firmly denied allegations that it awarded contracts worth N13 billion between February and June 2024 without following due process.
The denial follows an online report by Akelicious, which claimed that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, alongside the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, awarded several contracts without adherence to legal and regulatory procedures.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, the Ministry described the allegations as “unfounded and malicious,” asserting that all contracts awarded during the stated period were done transparently and in line with the Public Procurement Act.
“The Ministry wishes to unequivocally state that at no time were such contracts awarded without due process,” the statement read. “These claims are not only unfounded but also malicious, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Honourable Minister and the Permanent Secretary, and to distract from ongoing economic reforms.”
The Ministry emphasized that contracts related to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), as well as others within the timeframe, followed all relevant procurement regulations.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ministry warned that it “will not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or organization that seeks to damage its reputation through false and malicious publications.”
It also called on the media to verify information before publication, while urging the public to disregard the report and trust in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to implement President Tinubu’s economic agenda. Continue ReadingÂ
