A former Student Union Government (SUG) President of Lagos State University (LASU), Adetimirin Yusuf Olamilekan, has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, urging him to commission the “Tinubu Student Square”, a monument built in his honor on the LASU campus.
In the letter, Olamilekan praised Tinubu’s visionary leadership and contributions to the education sector, both as Lagos State Governor and now as Nigeria’s President. The monument, featuring a statue of Tinubu, a water fountain, four lions, and two eagles, symbolizes his courage, resilience, and visionary thinking.
Olamilekan noted that the project, initiated during his time as LASU SUG President, is the first of its kind in any Nigerian university to immortalize a political leader while still alive. He highlighted Tinubu’s legacy in education, including the free payment of WASSCE fees for Lagos students and the introduction of the Student Loan Scheme to promote equitable access to education.
The former SUG President expressed his hope that the monument would be commissioned this year, three years after his graduation, and commended Tinubu’s ongoing efforts in nation-building.
He concluded by affirming his confidence in Tinubu’s success as Nigeria’s President.Tap Here To Read Full Details
