FRSC Highlights Major Causes Of Abia Road Accident, Details Emerged

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Sector Command has listed over speeding, tyre bursts, overloading, driver fatigue, driving under the influence of drug/alcohol etc, as major contributors to road accident in Abia State.

The Command also said it will deploy FRSC personnel and Special Marshals across major corridors and identified crash-prone areas within Abia during Ember Months.

The Sector Commander of Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma disclosed this on Tuesday, during a press conference to flag off the 2025 Ember Months road safety campaign.

She said the report about the crash trends were gathered from a recent analysis, underscoring that human factors remain a major cause of road crashes in Nigeria.

Ezeoma who said that her Command is focused safe roads in Abia, said the Ember Months campaign will address the issues of mechanically deficient vehicles, especially use of unsafe tires by drivers.

She further said speed limit violations, traffic light/ road marking violations, seat belt violations, use of mobile phones while driving and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol will be addressed throughout the Ember Months campaign.

The FRSC Commander who described road safety as a collective responsibility, announced that strict enforcement of traffic laws would be carried out through patrol operations and mobile Court to address critical offenses.
