The Secretary to Kano State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk. Ibrahim, has inaugurated an eleven-member committee to investigate the controversial sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) abattoir, located at Chalawa industrial area, by the immediate past administration led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Addressing members of the committee during the inauguration, the SSG revealed that the committee is mandated to probe the circumstances that led to the sale of the land and its equipment, review all documents and agreements related to the transaction, and also assess the level of compliance with relevant laws and due process as required.
“The committee is expected to determine the roles and culpability of individuals, organizations, or agencies involved in the sale, recover any public funds, assets, or equipment lost in the process, recommend legal, administrative, or disciplinary actions against those found culpable, verify the legality of the transaction, including valuation and price fixing, suggest preventive measures against future occurrences.
The committee is also expected to propose steps to facilitate the establishment of a modern meat processing plant that meets international standards,” he said.
The 11-member panel is chaired by the immediate past chairman, Kano Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, with Abdulkadir Shehu of the Office of the Head of Civil Service serving as secretary.
