Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has endorsed the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), pledging to mobilise students across the state to take full advantage of the interest-free loan scheme, LeadNaija Reports.
The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the initiative, describing it as a historic intervention that complements existing bursaries and scholarship programmes by bridging financial gaps confronting students.+See more details
Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance in Akure while receiving the management of NELFUND during the agency’s first South-West visit of the year. He said the scheme removes the need for personal connections to access educational loans and guarantees that no qualified student is denied university education because of financial constraints.

According to him, the state government will support efforts to deepen awareness of the programme through campus engagements and improved sensitisation, urging NELFUND to adopt a data-driven approach to enhance student participation.
“This initiative is a major boost to access to education. With proper awareness and collaboration, more students will benefit, and financial barriers to learning will be significantly reduced,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, explained that the loan application process is fully online, non-punitive and interest-free.

He noted that repayment begins two years after the completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), through income-based deductions.
Sawyerr appealed to the Ondo State Government for support in building public confidence in the scheme and encouraging eligible students to apply, stressing that the programme is designed to promote equitable access to higher education nationwide.+Load full details
